Who is eligible for services? How long are patients eligible for services? Individuals and families meeting the following requirements are eligible for services:
Residency in Lane County, Monroe and Harrisburg vicinity.
Individual/Family GROSS income for the last 3 months is between 85% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level
Patients who are 18 years of age or older
Medical condition is not caused by a motor vehicle accident covered by insurance or a work-related illness or injury that involves Workers' Compensation coverage.
Volunteers In Medicine eligible Oregon Health Plan and Medicare patients not yet assigned to a provider or unable to get a provider
Insured patients with a high deductible ($2,500 and above)
Uninsured patients who meet Volunteers In Medicine eligibility guidelines
Patients who do not qualify for any state funded healthcare

Volunteers In Medicine is a medical �home-base � for low-income, underserved adults and their households in Lane County who can't afford health care coverage. Even with the Affordable Care Act, many individuals lack the financial means to pay for high deductibles, co-pays, and other out of pocket expenses. Services we provide include primary health care, routine physicals, women's health care, behavioral health care, diabetes management and counseling, physical therapy, specialty care and referrals to specialists, respiratory therapy, and smoking cessation. We also have a pharmacy on-site where patients have access to some medications at no charge.
 
A major problem that can result when patients don't have access to preventive care is that a small, treatable issue can turn into something more serious over time. This leads to costly emergency room visits and procedures that can be burdensome financially to both the patients and our local economy. At Volunteers In Medicine, our mission is to provide our patients with the preventive care and services they need to be healthy and happy.
 
Primary Care - At the VIM clinic, volunteer physicians and nurses donate their time to treat patients and provide the highest quality medical care possible. They strive to treat and provide solutions for existing conditions, in addition to routine preventive care including physicals and other recommended examinations.
 
Behavioral Health Services - The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 18.6% of adults in the United States suffer from mental illness; that's nearly 1 in 5. Mental health disorders can be exacerbated by stress, and studies show that low income individuals are more likely to have higher stress levels. Mental illnesses can include addiction, depression, anxiety, and more. Through our Behavioral Health program at VIM, we provide access to mental health care for low-income adults including diagnostic services, counseling, and medication. Volunteer counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists support the Behavioral Health program by donating their time onsite.
 
Diabetes Management and Education - The clinic offers one-on-one counseling for diabetic patients. We provide blood glucose monitoring, self-testing tools, and classes to educate patients living with diabetes on lifestyle habits and self-management best practices. Our goal is to provide our patients with the tools and knowledge they need to reduce the complications and health issues associated with diabetes. These services are offered both in English and Spanish.
 
Pharmacy - VIM runs an in-house pharmacy that provides our patients with most medications at no cost. The pharmacy can only dispense medications prescribed by physicians at the Volunteers In Medicine Clinic. We fill and dispense prescriptions during clinic hours only. Please do not wait until you are out of medication to request a refill; plan ahead and allow at least 72 hours for refills. Please note - we are unable to dispense controlled substances.
 
Specialty Referral - When a patient's needs go beyond the care our physicians are able to provide, referrals to specialty health care providers may be available. Specialists-such as doctors specializing in dermatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, etc. often volunteer their time at Volunteers In Medicine, so some specialty care is available on site. If an outside referral is necessary, our staff will assist in facilitating a visit to the specialist if possible, often and little or no-cost.
 
Women's Health Care - Routine gynecological care, including the annual well-woman visit recommended by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and other women's health care is provided at the clinic or arranged for in the community. We are also able to provide mammograms through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.
 
Physical Therapy - For patients recovering from physical impairments not caused by a motor vehicle accident covered by insurance or a work-related injury covered by Workers' Compensation, physical therapy may be available.
 
Respiratory Therapy - Respiratory therapy is available for patients who have difficulty breathing, whether due to asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis or other pulmonary or cardiac disorders. Respiratory therapists help patients understand their disorder and teach them how to manage it.
 
Smoking Cessation - It's extremely difficult to quit smoking. Our expert counselors at Volunteers In Medicine understand this and help patients break the habit for good with a comprehensive program that includes group education and support, tips and tricks for quitting, and smoking cessation medications when appropriate.
 
Laboratory Service - When a patient needs to have lab work done, VIM has an on-site blood draw so we can draw your blood without sending you to another lab. In partnership with PeaceHealth Laboratories, we then send your blood out for the appropriate testing to be done. PeaceHealth Laboratories provides these services free of charge to the patient and to the clinic.
