Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic (EPFC) cares for adult patients, ages 19-64, who have no health insurance and cannot afford to pay for health care. The clinic has a long-standing commitment to serve the working poor of our communities. We use the skills of physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other medical professionals who volunteer their time and talents. Patients must qualify for services and are seen free of charge. Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic operates on the philosophy that every person is entitled to quality health care regardless of their personal finances or insurance status.

EPFC offers comprehensive basic and specialty care to its nearly 3,000 uninsured impoverished patients. Patients with diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular, and other chronic diseases have regularly scheduled access to medical supervision and medications while patients with acute illness receive care on a non-emergency basis both on-site and at volunteer specialist's offices. The clinic also offers a walk-in clinic on Friday mornings for current patients who have been screened and qualified.

Women\'s health issues are paramount at EPFC. Pap smears are mandatory procedures that must be performed on an annual basis for all female patients 40 years of age and over. Patients also receive a breast exam and mammograms are referred procedures for high risk patients.

The clinic provides a range of health education programs aimed at improving the health status of patients. Health education is a key component of EPFC\'s system of care. Classes are conducted for diabetes management, tobacco cessation, and weight loss.

Mental health services are also offered at the clinic to meet the needs of patients. The ever turbulent economy and life circumstances of many of our patients require attention to mental health as well as physical health.

EPFC provides access to pharmaceuticals through its in-house licensed Charitable pharmacy. Millions of dollars worth of prescriptions are provided free to our patients each year.
